FAQ'S - JSKA-PORTUGAL

 

WHAT IS THE JSKA-PORTUGAL?

The designation JSKA for Japan Shotokan Karate Association corresponds to the world association led by the sensei Abe Keigo.

The JSKA-Portugal it is an association of Karate Shotokan member representative of JSKA in Portugal.

The JSKA-Portugal it was created to give continuity in Portugal to the teachings of Shihan Mazatoshi Nakayama through his close disciple Abe Keigo.

 

WHAT IS SHOTOKAN?

It is a composed word: “Shoto” represents the name of the place where was build the Guichin Funakoshi’s Dojo - the founder of Modern Karate; “Kan” means school/club/group.

The generalized idea that Shotokan is a style of Karate, it is wrong. Funakoshi struggle for unify all tendencies among their graduate students. He pleaded the cause that differences didn't justify the creation of multiple styles.
During the last years of his life, created the “Nihon Karate Kyokai” that would come to be, up to 1999, the largest world Karate organization, reason because, in the western countries, it was known by the English designation “JKA-Japan Karate Association”.

After Funakoshi's death, his disciple - Mazatoshi Nakayama assumed the leadership of the JKA and since then whole work developed followed the line of Funakoshi, that’s why it was attributed the designation Shotokan.

 

THE 5TH WORLD KARATE CHAMPIONSHIP?

The 5th JSKA World Karate Championship will have place from 21st to 24th, October 2010, on Portimão city, Algarve-Portugal.

The first two days are especially destined to technical training and an arbitration course driven to the referees and judges designated for the championship. The last two days are destined to the championship.
